LESSON LAB: iView Part II

In a previous lesson lab, we covered the basics for using iView™ Catalog Reader. If you missed that lesson lab, please read it first. The Catalog Reader is a great way to view catalog files that have already been created. In this lesson lab, we'll move beyond that and learn to create, edit, and merge your own catalog files.

First, you will need to download the full version of iView Media or MediaPro. You can do this at www.iview-multimedia.com To see the differences between iView Media ($49) and MediaPro ($199), see this comparison chart from iView's website. Note: You can try the software free for 21 days.

COMBINING CATALOGS
Perhaps you have several volumes of Oxygen and would like to combine all of the catalogs into one. No sweat. Simply do the following:
  • From the top menu, click File > New to create a new catalog.
  • Now select File > Import Items > Merge With Catalog.
  • Using the dialog box, select a catalog to combine.
  • Repeat previous 2 steps until all desired catalogs have been merged.
  • Save your new combined catalog.

  • ADDING ITEMS TO A CATALOG
You might have some of your own photos that you want to add to a catalog. You can either:
  • Drag and drop your images into the catalog
  • Select File > Import Items > From Files/Folders

    FINDING MISSING ITEMS
It is important to understand that iView does not store your files in the catalog, it only points to where they are stored on your computer. Sometimes, you will get an error message that says "File not found." Starting with an open catalog, do the following:
  • Select Find > Find Missing Items
  • A window pops up and you can choose to remove or search. Click Search…
  • Select the location where the pictures are found.
  • Accept the changes as iView presents them

    MOVING IMAGES INTO ONE FOLDER
iView Media and MediaPro allows you to move source files. For instance, you might want to create one folder where you store all of your Oxygen artwork. To do that:
  • Start with an open catalog of images.
  • Select the images that you want to move (or copy).
  • From the top menu, choose Action > Transfer to Folder
  • Carefully read the description of each option and select the one you want.

    CREATE A FAVORITE SET
On the left-hand side of the screen, you should see an area labeled Catalog Sets.
  • Right-click and Create New Set an name it "Favorites."
  • Choose some of your favorite images in the catalog and drag them into the catalog set.
  • Click on your Favorites set and only the images you put in the set will appear.
  • To see all images again, click on - All Images -- or from the menu at the top of the screen, select Find > Show All.

    ADVANCED SLIDE SHOWS
With Media or MediaPro, you have a whole set of options to create a custom slide show.
  • From the top menu, select Make > Slide Show Options
  • Choose all your options and then select Run Slide Show
  • You can even save your slideshow as a QuickTime movie.

    PRINTING A CONTACT SHEET
Many people still prefer to have a printed reference in their hands to refer to when selecting an image. IView gives you that option.
  • From the top menu, select Print
  • In the top box, select Contact Sheet
  • In the next box down, select Full Page
  • Down along the bottom, select Page Setup and choose your paper size.
  • Click the Grid Button. This is where you can choose how many images per page you want to print. For example, click the Cells radio button, then type 6 in the first box, and 10 in the second. This will give you 60 pictures per page. Click OK
  • Click Print to send it to your printer.

    BONUS CATALOG FOR PREMIERE MEMBERS:
Now available in the premier members section is a catalog pre-built for you. It features all of the original artwork from Volumes 1 through 10. It contains the Original Art jpegs as well as the soft-edged PNG versions. It's a great resource for you to be able to browse our existing library of scripture-inspired artwork.
